About

The Qur’an, the Last and the Final Revelation is universal and for the entire humanity, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, the west, the east, the blacks, the whites, the males, the females, the young, the old, the ruler, the ruled, the seculars, the atheists, the scholars, the thinkers, the commoners, the students, the educated, and the unlettered. Its messages need to be rehearsed and conveyed to all. The efforts in this regard are immensely admirable. Yet, the interpretation of the Qur’anic ideas has so far been made exclusively for Muslims. One can hardly find any interpretation of the Qur’an (tafsir) which at least purportedly address others from the mankind. Aside from that almost all the tafsir works focus on jurisprudential, historical, philosophical, linguistic, and doctrinal issues, which in one way or another concern with Muslims only.

The Qur’an describes itself, among others, as wise (wa al-Qur’an al-hakim: 36:2). Al-Hakim here denotes that the Qur’anic verses, precepts, ideas, exhortations, prohibitions, legal rulings, and socio-moral advices are all relevant for all situations and times whatsoever. Does it not then mean that the Qur’an is to be read again and again, time and again, over and over again, not necessarily only through the already available tafsir compendia (highly admirable endeavors indeed), through direct reflection (tadabbur) on its messages with a view to tracing, identifying and understanding their wisdom. For that matter, jurisprudential, doctrinal, historical, and philosophical dimensions are to be kept aside.

Journal of Qur’anic Wisdom (JQW) has been launched to publish therein articles representing Qur’anic wisdom, making it accessible to whomever is interested to know and understand the ever-relevant messages of the Qur’an. Initially, the JQW will focus on the publication of articles comprising interpretation of the entire Qur’an in gradual manner, authored by well-known scholar of the Qur’an, Prof. Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan.
